Pura Vida disappointments

A last happy California sight! Doughbots!
Sandy ended up canceling our flight to Costa Rica since it went through Newark. After being on the phone for about 3 hours, we were rebooked and ready to go through Miami, getting there slightly later than previously expected.

The boys and I went to Doughbots and got ready for Halloween. Gratefully gettin a bike ride in before the crazy travel portion of the day kicked in.

Then I got a call saying our Sacramento to SF leg was cancelled. Luckily, we could catch a ride with friends already driving to the SF airport..

Checking in to the flight, Jose and I were told we had tickets but no seats, kind of important for a flight. United and American passed us back and forth, blaming each other. Long, long story short, no flights available until tomorrow. We even tried to fly standby in our original flight. However, the open seats they had seen on the computer weren't there due to the discovery of an "object" on the first plane, forcing them to rebook everyone on a smaller plane.

Jose and I finally talked them into giving us a hotel for the night. Barely caught dinner and woke up 4 hours later to head back to the airport.

As we made our way back to the gate, we were stopped and told to check in our bag. That's when they mentioned that Jose didn't have enough time left on his passport--2 months when Costa Rica wanted 3.

Heartbreaking to say the least. We said goodbye in San Francisco and I made the long journey alone. Another 4.5 hour shuttle ride to finally get to the resort, making it to bed at 3 am--22 hours later, 36 hours since leaving Sacramento.

My conference started the next day at 7 am. It's been a very long and exhausting journey, very disappointing, and totally different from what we had been planning. It's good that all the wonderful people and experiences here are distracting enough for me to stop dwelling on my sadness.

It's also difficult to feel sorry for myself when so many people have lost so much during hurricane Sandy. I am so blissfully lucky to have so much in my life. I am in la pura vida, for goodness sakes!

I might be dreadfully missing some of my favorite people but I'm also happily full of all-inclusive mixed drinks and listening to a very butchered rendition of Hotel California from the karaoke portion of the conference (that I'm also happily missing).

Just to mention--I haven't ridden a bike in two days. There is a stationary bike in the gym but it isn't calling to me. I feel the purpose of my 365 day challenge was to help me change my biking ways into a regular experience and it's already done that for me. Biking is now my transportation and my job, I don't feel the same need to force myself to ride so I'm giving myself a pass or now. It's not like I'll get home and regress back to driving.

Now, I go to sleep listening to "Like A Virgin." I'm still pretty amazingly blessed. Oh my goodness, that's some terrible singing... I have earplugs... I am so grateful!
