On another note, I've decided that it's time for our family to get back into touring! We're joining the Sacramento Bike Hikers to tag along on their rides and get to know the real enthusiasts in the area. Then, there is this amazing website that basically maps out everything we would ever need to get around central California by bike. The wonders of the internet!
It's March 1st! I think that's as good a day as ever to begin our car-freer style and we're not going to let a little drizzle get in our way! Theo and I started the day riding to 'Nama's house to pick up Big Brother from their "slumber party". Theo was pretty happy to have the entire trailer to himself for the 3 mile trip. When Jose was finished with work, he biked over to stay with the boys while I got to take a kid-free(!) ride with the trailer over to Practical Cycles on J st. in Old Town. I've been working with the lovely folks at Yuba Cycles to figure out if I can use a Chariot trailer on the Mundo Cargo Bike (my current obsession). With some help from Tim at P.C. and almost daily emails with Nate at Y.C., we've determined that it's highly likely to work with a couple of modifications to the trailer arm or hitch. However, the amazing thing about the Mundo, is that you can fit two kids in baby seats on the back of the extended rack and still leave room for carrying all the gear that comes along with two kids. The trailer option would just be for when weather dictates a need for better baby shelter or carrying extra cargo/babies. I love options! I also love the idea of being able to pop around and do my errands without having to take apart the trailer every time and bring three locks to ensure the safety of my rig. Also, compared to my current set-up, the Mundo would feel like a compact vehicle. The stability and versatility makes it incredibly practical and comfortable.
